Common questions regarding Connecticut statutory training requirements and the permit application process.
Yes. Under Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 29-28, applicants must complete an approved handgun safety course consisting of no less than the NRA Basic Pistol Course with mandatory live-fire range qualification. Our course satisfies all statutory requirements, and our certificate is accepted by all local municipal police departments and the Connecticut State Police Special Licensing and Firearms Unit (SLFU).
No. Everything is provided for you. All handguns, live ammunition, range fees, paper targets, and personal protective equipment (eye and ear protection) are included in your $140 class registration fee.
Connecticut operates on a two-step permit process. After completing your training with Valor, you submit your certificate and application to your local town Police Department (or First Selectman). They issue a 60-day Temporary Local Permit (DPS-70-C). Within those 60 days, you take your temporary permit to CT State Police Headquarters to receive your official 5-Year Connecticut State Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers (DPS-46-C).

Valor Armorment Sales, LLC • Founded 2012
"The job is not done until the customer is satisfied. I take pride in giving 110% to everything I do — because excellence and integrity matter."
My introduction to firearms began when I was about five years old. My dad took my brother and me target shooting with his .22 pistol, and I was “hooked” right from the start. Not long after, I took my first NRA Safety Course in the mid-1960s so I could purchase my own .22 rifle. I even convinced my mother that completing the course would help keep me safe around firearms — and it worked!
In 2012, I founded Valor Armorment Sales, LLC, which has been the cornerstone of my professional growth in the shooting sports industry. As a licensed firearms manufacturer and dealer, I've had the opportunity to expand my knowledge, skills, and appreciation for this field. I believe that learning never ends, and I continue to pursue deeper understanding and professional development every day.
Alongside my work in the firearms industry, I have spent over 48 years in the Security and Fire Alarm industry. That experience has given me a strong foundation in protection, safety, and customer service.
My NRA Pistol Classes are designed to be engaging, fast-paced, and fun. Every student is treated with respect, kindness, and professionalism. Whether it's your first time handling a firearm or you're ready to earn your credentials to own and carry, we are here to support you every step of the way.
Every course and transfer at Valor Armorment Sales is backed by state, federal, and national certifications.

As a U.S. LawShield instructor, I enhance your firearms training by adding an important legal-education component to traditional firearms safety and shooting skills. Students can learn not only how to safely handle a firearm but also the legal considerations surrounding self-defense, when the use of force may be justified, what to expect following a defensive incident, and the importance of having access to qualified legal assistance.
This provides a comprehensive “responsible armed citizen” education program combining firearms safety, defensive mindset, and an understanding of the legal consequences of using force.
